As I was working my way through the Historic District around noon today I noticed that there was a real difference in the snow and ice cover on the sunny side of a given street versus the shady side of the same street.  As I was looking for a way to show that distinction in a photo I passed Gwen.

She was working quite hard at chipping away the ice in front of her home with a hard metal shovel and then using the yellow plastic snow shovel to push the shards off of the sidewalk.  (I chose a photo of her with the yellow shovel just because the color made a better photo.)  You can see how she is bundled up.  I was taking this photo from the other side of the street standing in the relative warmth of the sun and on dry, clear pavement with my coat unzipped.

It really was two different weather experiences separated by just a few yards.

  1. There’s a lot to be said for the sunny side of the street! The sunny side also got the song.)
