Today I found another opportunity to shoot a beautiful pair of sister houses.  I just love that bright red door, but it made me do something I almost never do.

When shooting architecture I really try to square and plumb the horizontal and vertical lines.  But when I did that here the tree in the photo ended right in front of that crimson door and that just was not working.  So I moved a few feet to the left to show the door and in the process unsquared my horizontals.  I think it was a fair trade.

For the photo geeks:  If I am going to show distorted architectural lines I try to make sure they are really, really distorted so that it looks like I did it on purpose.  A little distortion might be interpreted as a mis-step on my part but a lot of distortion is an artistic choice!

  1. I follow your daily photos without fail and was delighted to see our townhouse at 107 featured in today’s post!

  2. Just lovely! And I just noticed the really cool basement window coverings. Never saw, or maybe never noticed, any like this before. Love them!
