A bit of lichen on a old wrought iron fence in the Historic District.

Lichen is a bit of algae and fungus living together in a symbiotic relationship.  I still remember my high school biology teacher, P.J. Hummer, describing lichen as algae and fungus that have taken a likin’ to each other.

  2. I really like wrought iron and the lichen makes this shot. Perfect catch!

  3. well that sure is a good way to remember how to pronounce lichen and what it is…and just into lent and after Mardi Gras the wrought iron is a fleur de lis…however you spell that? your whole pic is great

  4. Oh, I love this and the description gave me a smile!
