Mid day I found Richard performing preventive maintenance on one of the parking meters in the Historic District.  He told me that all of the 880 meters in the city receive this treatment once a year to make sure that both the mechanical and electronic components are operating as they should.  He also took time to clean the lenses and remove any non-city stickers from the meters or the posts supporting them.

And he told me something that I did not know (and I bet you don’t either).  There is an opening next to the coin slot of each meter that accepts a city parking meter card.  The card has a chip just like your credit card and can be reloaded with funds as needed.  Did you know that a parking meter card was available from the city?
